I use a lot of salt when I read the “news”. I used to dive deep trying to get to the source.
Here is one of my lists of bookmarked sites that I used to cycle through as I chased the Truth:

For the past year though, I stopped chasing “the Truth” because like a friend said to me: it is just another can of worms. Meaning there is no end.
When Jane’s Defence Weekly was available in the public library that is what I looked at because I could follow the money of the intelligence/military industrial complex.
When I burned out and collapsed in a ball of PTSD flashbacks and spirals, I had no choice but to step away.
I learned that everyone is being scared as per The Shock Doctrine rules of social control. It is easier and more cost effective in the short term to use fear as a motivator on a population. My breakdown was a microcosm of what I witness now in the world.
I believe all of us here have learned what the long-term costs of stress has on mental health.
Problems are amplified.
Solutions are lost in the arguments, blame and vitriol.
I get lost in frustration and then lose motivation to change anything.
What can I do? Giving up is not an option.
The only thing in my control, my choices will be influenced by the information I expose myself. I have learned to protect my inner mental space by discerning what I expose myself to… The shift to see most news as junk food (not just mainstream media btw – no information gets a credibility pass even if it is on some underground site and the ‘lamestream’ ignores it. Truth through repetition – Brainwashing 101 (that was a university subject and tagline from some school I was researching back in the 90’s and it is still true (lol – irony).
